Dr. Farzaneh Haratyan, titled Talent, category A in her work permit, is currently awarded the title of Professor at Suzhou University. She earned her first MA in TEFL and first Ph.D. in English Literature from University Malaya UM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She studied her second MA and Ph.D. in General Psychology at Science and Research Branch, IAU. After 16 years of working as an assistant professor at IAU teaching various BA, MA, and PhD courses in language studies, in May 2022, she was appointed as a distinguished associate professor at the faculty of foreign languages at Huaian University. Her interest lies in the way psychological theories can be applied to language studies like psycho-linguistics, psycho-semiotics, and psychoanalytic literary criticism. She has also been working as an educational psychologist and counselor applying CT, REBT, and ERS. She has had keynote speeches and lectures in conferences and workshops regarding Self -Regulation and ERS and presented papers in Finland, Australia, Japan, China, Romania, India, Singapore, Turkey, Malaysia, Japan, Portugal, Australia, etc. She has been supervising and examining MA and PhD theses in addition to collaborating in research and writing papers with her colleagues. Currently, she is working at Suzhou University in China. She is interested in calligraphy, yoga, cycling, creative poetry, and motivational writing.

Teaching and Research Statement

Coming from two disciplines of Literature and Psychology, I advocate the implementation of various psychological understandings in the interaction with my students, colleagues, and staff members. I prefer practicing what I have learned in psychology in my classes concerning students with individual differences. Enlightening courses in literature in poetry, novels, or drama can broaden, deepen, and sharpen students’ minds and mentality. Psychology studies human minds and their cognition, communication, and behavior, which can supply teachers with the necessary expertise for education. Teaching is a profession about life enlightenment and consciousness-raising; therefore, it necessitates awareness of interdisciplinary methodologies involving the wholeness of human beings.

For teaching, I take my understanding of educational, social, and positive psychology into my classes in communication with students: the significant notions of optimal functioning, authentic happiness, excellence, self-actualization, life meaning, willingness, attention, memory, motivation, learning, cognitive processes, metacognitive awareness, mindfulness, affects and emotions, social learning, group functioning, identity, scaffolding, self-efficacy, self-confidence, and integrity.

For research, I am interested in exploring how psychological theories can be applied to language studies like psycholinguistics, psycho semiotics, and psychoanalytic analysis of literary artifacts. I remind my MA and Ph.D. students of the significance of psychological concepts and notions and the way they are manifested in literary adaptions, novels, and poems. Freudian, Jungian, Adlerian, Lacanian, Seligmanian, and Maslowian theories can facilitate life discovery by providing knowledge of selfhood and humanity.
